Letters to Thaddeus Ko*sciuszko and Ko*sciuszko's commission in the American forces, 1776, 1798-1814.

The letters concern Kościuszo's funds in the United States and Jefferson's borrowing of them; Jefferson's retirement to Monticello and his activities; the young men who study with him;and the causes and events of the War of 1812, including privateering and the embargo. With the letters is Ko*sciuszko's commission as a Colonel of Engineers in the American forces. Also available on microfilm as Manuscript Division reels 120-122.
